Not every outage has the same cause. The emergency plan must work within minutes

For distributed locations, clear network segmentation for voice devices and administration is also recommended.
Be mindful of data protection during emergency operations. If calls are redirected to cell phones, responsibilities, access rules, and any recording requirements must still be adhered to. Especially when dealing with sensitive customer data, it is not advisable to handle emergency communications spontaneously via private messaging apps or unknown devices.
Test, Measure, Improve
A telecommunications contingency plan is only reliable once it has been tested. Schedule a controlled test at least once a year—or more frequently for critical service organizations. For example, simulate the failure of the main line or a location, and verify that the most important phone numbers are reached within the agreed-upon time frame.
Don’t just document whether the test was successful. Measure the time it takes for the call forwarding to activate, the call quality on the alternate route, and reachability outside of business hours.
