Skilled Labor Shortage in the ICT Industry

The shortage of IT professionals not only highlights weaknesses in the education system but also places a massive burden on companies that provide on-the-job training. These companies bear the full cost of external continuing education courses and must develop the exam project on their own. In addition, they are responsible for submitting the exams for review and administering them, while having to rely on an expert to oversee the exam.
Without sufficient government support and incentives for companies to create apprenticeships, the sector will remain under pressure. Reform is urgently needed to increase the appeal of IT careers and secure the future of the industry and Switzerland’s position.
