Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) is the integration of telecommunications with electronic data processing. This allows you to make phone calls using your PC.
Dial a phone number with a click of the mouse: In practice, these systems are often integrated into email programs, such as Microsoft Outlook, and feature a TAPI interface. This allows you, among other things, to call saved contacts directly from within the email program. In addition, some CTI modules also offer fax functionality.
CTI enables the automatic initiation, acceptance, and termination of phone calls; the setup of conference calls; the sending and receiving of fax messages; phone directory services; and call forwarding—all from within computer programs.
Using automatic caller identification, the corresponding record from a customer database can be displayed on a screen. It is also possible to keep a log of the calls made. This technology is primarily used by call centers.
