Skills shortage in the ICT sector
The shortage of IT specialists not only reveals the weaknesses in the education system, but also places a massive burden on training companies. They bear the full cost of external training courses and have to develop the examination project themselves. They are also responsible for submitting and conducting the examinations for assessment, while they have to rely on an expert to accompany the examination.
Without sufficient government support and incentives for companies to create apprenticeships, the sector will remain under pressure. A reform is urgently needed to increase the attractiveness of IT professions and secure the future of the sector and Switzerland's position.
